Skaha Lake FROZEN OVER no kayaking today!

FROZEN OVER: Skaha Lake Panorama photo. 2/7/2014

 I am still finding it hard to believe that Skaha Lake is frozen over. This is one for the history books. This shot taken on February 7th 2014

The lake started freezing about 2 days ago today it is frozen over and with about 3.5 inches of fresh snow on the lake now. Here are some shots from yesterday before the snow. "Glass Ice" can be found near the river channel entrance to the lake.

Robin and Brian paddled from 3Mile Beach (aka Three Mile Point) to Naramata and Naramata to Indian Rock. Robin & Brian found some challenging waves to navigate their way through safely around Naramata. See the photo/video below.

Our Kayaking highlights from 2012 here in the Okanagan Valley

Kayaking highlights from 2012's kayaking season. Thank you everyone who joined us on our paddle trips this year, its been a blast!

 

 

No kayaking isn't finished for the year there still is more to come as I will be paddling on the off-season =)

This Thursday Nov. 15th we (KAYAKokanagan & ShuswapKayaks) have plans to paddle Vaseux Lake, even though it is an important day for those in Dublin and may be over here in Canada too, LOL. That said, if anyone wants to join us or meet us there for a paddle let us know.

Fall is here, sadly though..

Our lawn is green as can be and the sun continues to shine here in the South Okanagan Valley with the odd part day of smoke from near by forest fires in Peachland and Okanagan Falls. Sad to say but there are some leaves falling off our trees here in Penticton, BC Canada. We have had an extended Summer or Indian Summer (or more politically correct term "Native American Fall Warming Period") this year. Longer than normal sunshine and temps above 20c and hitting near 30c during the day but nights are getting cooler. For the past 4 weeks there has been mostly sunshine.. almost constant sunshine, even though some leafy trees are changing and beginning to fall. My kayaking is starting to dwindle down but will still be paddling on and off all Fall & Winter. 

 Almost time to think of blowing out the irrigation and empting our water fountain then plan some short Fall/Winter kayaking day trips.

 

Looking forward already for spring to come again LOL

Circumnavigating Skaha Lake by kayak - IronMan Sunday August 26th 2012

We started off at about 9:00am, paddling to the N/W corner of Skaha Lake then put up our sails on our kayaks then sailed with the North wind to the Soda Springs where we found a cold waterfall with Tufa rock deposits then to Okanagan Falls then after a break for lunch we paddled across to the South East corner of the lake with the wind still blowing from the North against us, mainly following the shoreline up the East side of the lake. The head wind blew all the way as we continued up the shoreline. Ducking into the odd bay to cut down on the head wind. A 6 hour paddle time round trip. Returning to where we put in at about 4:30pm. Was a hard paddle at times. Was entertaining watching the IronMan runners and bikes go by along the East side of the lake as we returned.
