Kayaking on Skaha Lake today was amazing! Blue sky and some clouds, very warm I think about 25c
Paddled from the N/E corner of Skaha following the shoreline North then South along the West side of the lake to BanburryGreen Tent & RV park (Kaleden area) then across the lake to the DogBeach and back up to the N/E corner of the lake. Took about 4 hours snapping photos along the way.

Poison Ivy along the shoreline on the West side is taking over in many areas.

 The DogBeach has the beautiful sounds of the RedWinged Blackbirds

Couple shots of a Dragon-boat passing by as the sun sets. Okanagan Valley is forecast for some warm weather the next few days. Highs expected to be near 30c. Lets see if the forecasters are right. ;)

Spring Kayaking - Skaha Lake "Inspecting The Docks & Shoreline" BLOG:April26-2014

"Inspecting The Docks & Shoreline"



 The forecast today was rain.. well it did not while we kayaked today.

Kayaker Robin Dunham and I paddled along the East shore of Skaha Lake to see what the damages remaining looked like and the progress of the homeowners had made in rebuilding their docks.

Along the way most all the lumber debris left from the February Lake Freeze of 2014 have vanished either home owners have collected most all the lumber that was along the shore or it has floated out in the lake.

 Many of the dock owners have been working on building new docks. This foundation appears to be built of steel, looking quite solid. Many still are in need of repair or replacement.

The photo below of one dock completely caved in in the center.

 Nice day for kayaking, the lake was quite calm most all the day long.

Very late afternoon the wind picked up a but only for short periods of time.

 One of our usual stops is at this dog beach. Nice spot to have a little break. Listening to the RedWinged Blackbirds.

"Kayaking Kathy McA" joined Robin and I as we paddled back.

Kayaking at -8c Skaha Lake to the Crash Site - KAYAKlog: Dec. 5th 2013

Kayaking  at -8c is not a problem as long as the weather is good and there is minimal wind today I paddled on Skaha Lake to the Crash Site to have a look at the wreckage.

 Winter kayaking on a calm and sunny morning on Skaha Lake to the Crash Site and back. Managed to get some great shots of the bell shaped ice forming on the reeds in the lake. Hope you enjoy the video below!

It was an interesting knocking sound as I paddled through the reeds as the bell shaped ice formations knocked on the kayak.

"CastaNet NEWS"Two people are OK after their vehicle ended up in Skaha Lake in Penticton Wednesday night.
According to Penticton RCMP Sgt. Rick Dellebuur, a 2009 Dodge 150 pick up was heading southbound on Channel Parkway when it missed the turn and went  about 100 feet out in the lake.
When the police arrived on scene, after getting the 8:15 p.m. call, they found the male driver and female passenger both on shore.
They were safe and were taken to hospital, he said.
The couple were not impaired, but it is believed the vehicle was going too fast and driver inattention could be a factor.
An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

The Autumn winds almost took our raft today 9/29/2013

Welcome to Autumn winds in the Okanagan. 

 All day it has been windy and the white caps on the lake have been incredible for the past few days.

Went out and had a look at our raft we salvaged last summer and today the waves snapped one of the anchors so I tied it down with rope. Thinking the wind would die down soon we headed off for supper. After getting back I thought I should grab some heavier rope and tie the raft to shore while the wind and waves blew towards our shore.

While I was searching the shed for some good heavy rope in the dark (9:30pm) I finally found some and headed out into the lake to tie it down. Well the rope I found was old rope and as I was pulling it tight the rope snapped as a large wave crashed over the raft. So went up to the shed to find my best length of new heavy duty nylon rope. Finally found it and headed to the raft. As I looked at the raft, expecting to see the dock lights mounted on the raft shining bright in the darkness like they were 5 minutes before I saw that the raft was no longer there. Looking up and down the shoreline and into the middle of the lake I finally spotted it, it was halfway between our neighbors dock and our dock banging against their shore. For fear of the raft possibly taking out their new dock I quickly ran in the ice cold water and grabbed the raft and hauled it back to our beach. Tied it at 3 points to our fence above for the time being. I think I will have to buy some cement and make some heavy anchors after all but unless it warms up that will have to wait till springtime.

These shots are facing West from the North/East side of Skaha Lake. Nothing like a rainbow first thing in the morning to start your day. Bit overcast this morning and slightly raining here at the lake, temp this morning is 12c. bit chilly with a 5kmh wind.

Dragon Boat Races - KAYAKINGLOG: Skaha Lake Sept7-8th2013

Dragon Boat Races September  7 & 8th 2013  Racers dodged the ducks and paddled on the South end of the lake. Over 2000 competing. Many vendors along the lake during the event.
